Summer is a special time when kids are out of school, visiting grandparents or other relatives, and enjoying friends and activities. This is especially true this summer after the past difficult year of being at home.
Kisses and hugs from grandparents and time spent with them are special. While enjoying time and activities together this summer with grandparents, Kerry Byrne, Ph.D. suggests ways grandparents can show love and offer encouragement through their words. While her article is focused on grandparents and grandkids, even parents will find these encouraging words helpful in relating to their own kids.
- I enjoy spending time with you
- You are a special person in my life
- I’m really proud of you
- Being with you is fun
- I really admire you
- My world is better with you in it
- I’m grateful for you
- Your ideas are really interesting
- You did that so well
Try weaving them into conversations with your child or grandchild or put them on a sticky note where your child will discover them.
